BMW Cleaning guide

CLEANING
BMW Canada recommends using BMW Group Car Care products or similar
commercial products intended for use on vehicle interior and exterior surfaces. If
you do not have such products on hand, you may use a mild detergent or soap
to clean surfaces. Spray or sponge your cleaning product onto the interior and
exterior surfaces of the vehicle, paying special attention to areas that are touched
frequently with your hands (door handles and controls, keys or start button,
steering wheel, gear shift, seats, buttons and knobs on your dash, sun visor,
console, cup holders, etc.). Using a fresh, clean microfiber cloth or soft disposable
paper cleaning product, dry all areas previously cleaned.
IMPORTANT:
Never spray or apply any ammonia-based products on infotainment touch screens
as they can damage their anti-glare and anti-fingerprint coatings. Always use a
gentle touch when cleaning and disinfecting your vehicle as vigorous rubbing can
damage any surface in the vehicle.

DISINFECTING
Once the surfaces have been cleaned, in order to eliminate viruses effectively you
need to use a disinfectant solution or disinfectant wipe with an alcohol solution
of 70% or more. Wipe the surface thoroughly so that the surface stays visibly wet
for a minimum of one to four minutes. Again, pay special attention to areas that
are touched frequently with your hands (door handles and controls, keys or start
button, steering wheel, gear shift, seats, buttons and knobs on your dash, sun visor,
console, cup holders etc.).

NOTE: It is not recommended to use harsh household disinfectants on vehicle
surfaces, especially ones that contain any concentration of bleach, or hydrogen
peroxide as these can cause irreversible damage to the vehicles interior or
exterior surface. To avoid any negative effects disinfectants may have on materials in the vehicle, it
is recommended that any disinfectant product is cleaned off with a microfiber cloth
or soft, disposable, paper-cleaning product using a BMW Group Car Care product
or similar commercial products intended for use on vehicle interior and exterior
surfaces. Most car leathers and imitation leathers have urethane coatings for
protection, which is safe to clean with alcohol.
