Rav4 Prime: A Quick Look

Back in November of 2019 Toyota unveiled the Rav4 Prime, their segment-defining plug-in hybrid SUV. Now that it has hit the streets, we figured it’s time to take a closer look at this powerful and fun SUV.

Exterior Style

The first change you’ll notice when you take a look at the RAV4 Prime is on the front end. The grille has been downsized alongside the headlights to give a sleeker and more aerodynamic look compared to the standard Rav4. Adding to that are the inclusion of stylish alloy wheels in 18- and 19-inch varieties. Finally, the XSE trim level adds a power moonroof and a power liftgate to make moving people and stuff around a breeze. Overall, you can tell this is a Rav4 at a glance, but it’ll also make you think “this is a little different!” You’d be right, particularly where power is concerned.

Under the Hood

The Rav4 Prime has made significant strides when it comes to performance, upgrading the horsepower from 203 on the standard Rav4 to a whopping 302hp, paired to an electric all-wheel-drive system, standard. The Prime is designed to get you where you need to go with confidence and have a little fun along the way. Even with the added horsepower, Toyota has kept things fuel-efficient with an average fuel economy of 6.05 L/100KM so, what fuel you will be using will definitely get you farther. Finally, if you ever find yourself completely out of fuel, the Rav4 Prime can go up to 68 Kilometers in full electric mode ensuring that running out of gas will not ruin your day.

Keeping You Safe

Toyota has taken its safety knowhow and channelled it into this iteration of the Rav4 including the full suite of Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 including:

● Lane Departure Alert W/steering Assist: Get warned and then nudged back into your lane if you drift.

● Automatic High-Beams: Makes sure you’re not blinding anyone in traffic and that you can see on those dark country roads.

● Pre-Collision System W/Pedestrian Detection: This will warn of and help you avoid hitting both pedestrians and bicyclists even at night.
